How does a question get "answered" status? Answered

I notice that some questions have an answered badge, yet others don't.
What's the logic behind this?

For a question to receive the "answered" badge, the creator of the question must select an answer that solves his/her problem.
Moderators can mark a question as answered also.
Having answered status doesn't mean the question thread is locked, it just means there's at least one working answer. People can still contribute answers as well.
